White Wine Tasting - July 3, 2015

Please do not pronounce Sauvignon Blanc
Like it rhymes with ker-bonk, honk or wonk.
Leave the "C" in your craw
And say "sauvignon blaw"
Or just order a glass of white plonk.

The July 3, 2015 Blind White Wine Tasting was hosted by Ruth and held at Vicky's house. Ten "Women Who Wine" brought either a bottle of wine or an appetizer to share for this event. The blind tasting consisted of 7 wines - Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Riesling, Viognier, Pinot Grigio, Chenin Blanc and Semillion.

Upon arrival the wines were hidden in a numbered bag Vicky created for the occasion. Each participant was given a handout with the names of the wine with accompanying notes to assist in determining the wine being tasted.

We discovered just how difficult it is to tell wines apart, even with the helpful hints. Pam accurately picked 3 of the 7 wines, 3 ladies accurately picked 2 of the wines while Connie and Debbie guessed zero (0) of the 7. Oops!

Instructions for the day included bringing your own wine glass and encouraging wearing white ensembles for the occasion. Christy, Kelly, Ruth, Cathy and Pam each had a Green Valley moment because they forgot their wine glass! Fortunately Vicky has plenty to spare. Kelly thinks black is the new white (okay, there were some white stripes in her top) while Carole is forgiven any transgressions having to endure a taxi ride from the airport with the driver who had to fill up with gas on his way to Quail Creek. So much for planning ahead!

Ruth, our hostess with the mostest, made a beautiful beaded wine glass for each of us in addition to supplying small gifts for the "contest" winners as well as a booby prize.

Vicky, who graciously opened her house to us for this event, brought each of us a lovely small dish (The perfect size to hold rings when doing the dishes!) as a souvenir from her recent trip which included a stop in Tokyo.

Cathy surprised us all with a gift of dazzling handmade earrings, dangling clusters of grapes and grape leaves.

The afternoon was fill with laughter, stories, good food and more laughter.

Two of our ladies got zero out of 7...Debbie illustrates how that feels!
Ruth made each lady a beautiful beaded wine glass to take home.
